When you think of braids you might think of your mom fixing your hair right before school, maybe a singular French braid that perfectly secured your hair during soccer practice, or a small, simple braid used to hold your bangs in place. But braids look a little different these days. They’re not just used to keep your hair from getting tangled and staying out of your eyes anymore (although, that’s still a huge plus). Now, braids are seen on runways and covers of magazines, they are a staple in hair design and have the power to elevate any look.
Thankfully The Salon Professional Academy here in Rapid City is more than ready to master the art of the braid with the help of South Dakota native, Karah Lemieux, also known as KarahKay Hair Design. After a nursing career where Karah felt like she was missing something, she decided to attend cosmetology school in Rapid City, SD, later making the move all the way to Canada where she continued to practice her technique. When the pandemic hit, she put her time and energy towards education in cosmetology. Now she offers courses in beginner and advanced braiding and styling. We are thrilled to start offering one of her 6-week styling courses to our students here at The Salon Professional Academy.
Each week of the course consists of a 2-hour class filled with braids, curls, twists and other styling tips, plus a few bonus lessons along the way. Students are also offered a free subscription into her private online styling group during the length of the class, where Karah will post a full hair tutorial weekly.
Karah is known for mixing her love for cosmetology with her love for macrame to create intricate, unique braids and up-dos that will leave you speechless. She believes that with patience, practice and an eye for detail, anyone can master her braids, up-dos and styling techniques.
